Stu and I met on Twitter and I am so excited to share his story! I asked Stu to reflect on a few questions, which he replied to via video - check it out here! Below is a short snippet of what he shared: 1. What is your life motto? "This has evolved a lot over the years...flow from the heart was my tagline, my motto...we are love, I am love...the core essence of who we are. Diving deep into that teaching...there was such resistance. At first I would cringe at the actuality that I am love...I want to talk about the next movement...flow from the heart...moved into a motto: awaken, unify, embody - those three words. Awaken is the actuality...is awakening to who we actually are... Unify is the yoga, is to bring things together...the ultimate truth of 'I am love'...to awaken, unify and then embody...embody the... wisdom with relative knowledge growth and development is to embody, unify, and awaken..." 2. Share a time when you overcame an obstacle in your life? What was the speed bump? "There have been so many obstacles...part of this earth school...I want to speak about one...I was 15 or maybe early 16...I had a near drug overdose...when I was a teenager, I took a lot of drugs...living hard...this overdose or near overdose...the closest I have felt to death thus far...everything went numb...it was full on...lasted at least a month or two. When I came out of that, I was so inspired...at the time it was not desirable at all, I would not wish it upon anyone...but it did serve as a spiritual sandpaper, it kicked my ass...during the recovery period, I listed to Tony Robbins...it was my introduction...I was doing all the courses by them...also studying nutrition, this was at 15 or 16...nobody could recognize me, I was glowing...I literally went from a skinny, pale...skater boy, to really pumped...radiant and positive. It really surprised a lot of people. That was a huge overcoming of obstacles...first awakenings of my life...it led to such bliss and such rapture and overcoming of old, unnerving, low vibrational habits...that was huge." 3. Share something that you want others to know about you. "Pretty much with me... what you see is what you get. I do whatever is flowing through me...I do what comes natural. I think, also, I want to speak to the yoga scene...the teacher is often put into this utopian pedestal,... in which the teacher is perfect and never stuffs up...I definitely do...fall into my shadow...I stuff up...it's part of life. I really want people to know, students to know, that yeah, I can be a little rascal..and all that, it's part of the practice...I'm light hearted and I play..." 4. What is a piece of advice you would want to leave to someone? "The advice..that still hums through my life...that teaching that 'I am love'...practice bringing that in to all types of situations...let's say you're stuck in traffic, the day to day...keep repeating, 'I am love'...keep repeating it! If it's new to you, it'll almost feel like 'fake-it-till-you-make-it'...it's like training...re-see who you really are!...you can bring that into anything...it's a tool to recenter...this is the fearless realm...when we become truly fearless...heart-centered mantra to bring into anything and everything: 'I am love, I am love, I am love". 5. How do you stay calm in the midst of a storm? How can fear be turned into an opportunity for growth? "I want to speak to that affirmation, to that mantra...bring transcendental wisdom...another moment when this mantra came in handy...personal story...my mother-in-law was dying...Jo, who was laying with her...all there is, is love...all there is, is love...as Ronda was taking her last breaths, undoubtably, Jo...spiritual reminder, in that moment...helped Ronda transition and turn fear into love, turned fear into growth...truly, I am love, or whatever mantra resinates with you...mantras...used to make me cringe...I could see that that cringing was a defense fear reaction...I kept saying these love mantra in spite of this cringing...my cringing was not real, was not serving...you need to find something that will serve you...mantras help us...tune to spiritual domains, witness consciousness...our true selves...there are many different...domains...but really it's simple...whatever works...recenter you, find what works for you right now!...all there is, is love...at first it is not comfortable, so keep bringing it into your practice. What works for me is yoga...work with these energies, and let it elevate you...transform you from the inside out..."
